Leasing Programme Transforming Ngobit Ward

  1

Laikipia Leasing program has continued to transform various localities within the county.

In Ngobit ward, the residents have witnessed the change in opening up of roads within the ward which has enhanced their economic well-being.

According to the area MCA Hon. Robert Maina, the programmes has proved to be much effective compared to the normal contracting.

The leasing programme has enabled us to construct more roads than those we would have done if it was the normal contracting. The strategy uses less money and thus enables construction of more roads, said Hon Maina.

The area is well known for livestock keeping and milk production. Most of the areas were impassable before enrollment of the programmes.

Our people used to complain because of poor roads which forced them to carry milk on their backs to the market. However, with the opened roads through the leasing programme, cars and motorcycles now access the most remote areas in my ward assured the MCA.

According to the ward representative budgeting should involve more money being allocated to the program and still consider other contractors with a smaller percentage.

In the budget for last financial year as the ward representative says, the programme has facilitated construction of 25 Kilometers and the money allows for construction of 15 more Kilometers.

The programme started in 2018 to help in road construction that required murraming, compacting and excavating at a low cost. It is much cheaper than buying of the equipment and provides for a shorter downtime for the equipment.
