Distribution Of 50 Tonnes Assorted Maize Seeds Kicks Off

In the last three cropping seasons, farmers have realized low yield and crop failure mainly caused by drought. Farmers have also counted losses and total crop failure after planting uncertified seeds bought from various traders in the area.

  

The County Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries led by the CECM, Madam Wangari Wachira officially launched the countywide distribution of 50,000 kgs (50 Tonnes) of relief hybrid seed maize at Endana, Segera ward. This is a relief to the farmers who have been hard hit by the drought. The quality of the seeds is also guaranteed.

  

The seeds will enhance the acreage under maize production by approximately 6,250 acres and set to benefit at least 12,500 farmers. The quantity per farmer is the seed rate of half an acre.

  

The seed maize comes at an opportune time for planting. The farmers could not hide their joy after receiving the seeds as they are of guaranteed quality, the yield per acre is an average of 14 bags. Therefore, a total of 87,500 ninety-kilogram bags will be realized in the end.
