Different Women Groups Gifted Assorted Maize Seeds, Goats
In a bid to promote diversity and food security in Laikipia County, H.E the First Lady Maria Mbeneka, on May 13, 2022, distributed assorted maize seeds to women groups in Karuga in Laikipia West. Joining her was the CECM Agriculture Livestock, Fisheries Wangari Wachira.
These women leaders in the County Government of Laikipia distributed three different types of maize seeds that will do well in the area. This comes at an opportune time when the period of short rain is in place. The seeds take about three months to mature which goes well with this rainy season.
I encourage farmers to diversify agriculture and take advantage of the readily available market.
Mbeneka said.
The different kinds of maize will help the farmers in having different kinds of maize products which will increase their market.
Other nine women groups from Salama, Olmoran, and Rumuruti wards benefitted with 50 goats with an aim of starting and growing sustainable enterprises.
