A team of 90 graduates during Dedan Kimathi University of Technology 12th graduation ceremony were from the Laikipia county staff members, graduating with Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management. The 90 came from a group of 125 who had enrolled for the course courtesy of the County Government of Laikipia.
This is a unique program in that DeKUT sets the object from the word go that it would be problem and project-based that are real. The students (county staff) were handling the problems and projects in real-time.
The theory taught in class was to be applied in the field and our professors and other University staff would inspect to warrant that they are implemented as should be.
said the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ndirangu Kioni.
According to the professor, DeKUT has the capacity to provide courses that aim at solving existing and even future problems that face the world today as witnessed through the development of the course to suit the needs of Laikipians.
The program has come at a time when the national government is implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC) in the country. Sometimes the questions are asked, are the universities ready to also provide education that is directly responsive to the needs of the society.
said Prof. Kioni. The course the Laikipia staff members undertook demonstrates that it is practical.
he added.
