Necessity Of Course To Solving Current, Future Challenges

Laikipians are expected to witness an exemptional change in service delivery by County Government staff after 90 of them underwent a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management course. This is a way of ensuring continuous human resource development.

  

The initiative that started in 2020 saw a group of four cohorts enroll at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. The program involved numerous course units. all relevant and applicable in solving day-to-day challenges.

  

Reforms are continuous, particularly where you want to improve the quality of your staff. This is part of the efforts of building the capacity so that they are able to perform to expectation.commented the County Secretary Karanja Njora.

  

According to Njora, the need arose after a year into government regarding the completion of public projects, difficulties in starting of projects, and abandoning others thereby indicating a gap that needed filling.

  

We realized that there were some gaps in terms of the capacity of our staff, and therefore the Governor addressed that by sending officers to DeKUT to undertake a Post-Graduate Diploma in Project Management.he said

  

Since the continuous reforms in the staff started, various projects have been initiated, others completed, and without abandoned since the workers know how to manage them.

  

The government has saved on resources and has set on completion of projects on time for public use.

  

Some of the government's mega projects within the learning period of the class of 2022 include the Kinamba Water Project, realization of Oljabet Smart Town, reforming the health sector, leasing program, and transformation of Solio among many others.

  

Other than this learning program, the County Government has also ensured numerous training takes place at the department level for continuous development of the workforce.

  

Others include sending representatives to learn and become trainers of trainers and thus impact colleagues positively.

  

This was just the first phase and we will be enrolling the new staff going forward. Our wish is to give all the officers the skills necessary for delivering projects on time and of good quality.the County Secretary commented about the graduating class of 2022.
