Change Of Guard As H.E Irungu Is Sworn In As Governor Laikipia County

On Thursday 25th August 2022, residents of Nanyuki and Laikipia at large flocked Nanyuki Stadium to witness the inauguration of Governor Joshua Irungu and Deputy Governor Reuben Kamuri.

  

Governor Irungu took the oath of office placing him at the helm of the County Government of Laikipia after a resounding victory in the just concluded August general election taking over from outgoing Governor Ndiritu Muriithi.

  

Having served as the first governor since the inception of devolved units, Governor Irungu will be serving his final term in office with the promise of continuing transforming Laikipia.

  

In his maiden speech, the governor highlighted key interventions that his government will prioritize on - economic, education, and health sectors. The county boss also noted that government workforce must be rewarded by providing a conducive working environment.

  

He said that his administration will build and continue with projects left behind by his predecessor since they serve the general public.

  

Any project by the outing administration was started to serve the people in Laikipia. As we embark on delivering our campaign manifesto, we will also complete those projects.Governor Irungu retaliated.

  

He added that having laid the foundation of a prosperous and model county during his first term 2013-2017, he has come back to reinforce the work done from 2017-22.

  

For the next five years, the Governor intends to implement various projects highlighted by his manifesto covering areas of agriculture and livestock production, water and sanitation and renewable energy, roads, infrastructure, and urban development.

  

We will transform the agricultural and livestock production sector to be sustainable, innovative, and commercially oriented, able to contribute to food and nutritional security with increased incomes for the Laikipia people.Governor noted.

  

Other key sectors in the manifestor include:

  

  • Trade, industrialization, Enterprise and urban development
  • Youth and Employment
  • Health care

  

All county newly elected leaders; MCAs, Women Representative, MNAs, and Senator graces the ceremony. They all pledged to work closely with the new county administration to ensure that Laikipia continues to enjoy peaceful coexistence and development.

  

They all applauded their competitors for a well-conducted campaign period that has ensured Laikipia remained peaceful taking into account that it is a cosmopolitan area.
