Laikipia Rabies Vaccination Campaign 2022

        The department of Agriculture led by the Ag. Chief Officer Ms. Elizabeth Wangari held a meeting to roll out rabbies vaccination program in the County. The meeting was chaired by the County Director of Vetinary services Dr. Peter Mwai.A team from Mpala Research center also took part in the meeting. 
The campaign is organized annualy in collaboration with Mpala reserch Centre with an aim of aradicating rabies in rural communities in Laikipia by offering free Vaccines and training.over 15 000 pets will be vaccinated.
The team will mainly target the high risk areas where cases have been reported in laikipia west, Laikipia North and Laikipia East in 8 weeks. The department targets to vaccinate all domestic pets in the targeted areas. The exercise will kick of next week starting on 0ctober, 7th 2022 in Laikipia North.
Rabies is one of deadliest zoonotic diseases and not only threatens human beings but also wildlife, it is easily spread from domestic dogs to the endangered wild dog species cheetahs amd other wild animals
Its therefore our duty to protect our lives, the lives of others and our animals by ensuring that all our domestic pets will be vaccinated.
An update on the schedule of the vaccination exercise will be shared.
