Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital has concluded the installation of three additional dialysis units, bringing the total of dialysis beds to 10. The additional dialysis units are expected to address the rising need for the service in the region, which is done at least twice a week for each patient.
This step means more patients will be seen at one session, much to the relief of the clients and staff who might be inconvenienced by the need to make do with inadequate facilities. Currently, the unit serves 34 patients.
This is part of a future plan to install a dedicated isolation unit to serve dialysis patients living with hepatitis B. This is expected to eliminate the risk of transmitting the highly contagious disease to other patients through sharing dialysis equipment.
This development takes the hospitals operations a notch higher and is synonymous with the recent service upgrades being rolled across the facility. Meanwhile, the hospital has also received additional renal dialysis beds in an effort to boost its capacity to serve patients better.
