On Saturday 18th January 2023, H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH hosted the Principal Secretary, State Department of Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga in Nanyuki.
The Housing PS was on development visit in Laikipia where he revealed that Laikipia County is among the counties set to benefit with the National Governments Affordable Housing project.
Governor Irungu took the visiting PS to the proposed site for the construction in Nanyuki where PS Hinga affirmed that the site met the threshold requirements of the housing project.
The five-acre piece of land near the Nanyuki Slaughter House is satisfactory in size, approximately 150 metres off Nanyuki-Nairobi Highway, 100 metres to Inooro Secondary School, and its a five minutes drive to Nanyuki Training and Referral Hospital.
We are going to construct 1,500 modern and affordable houses for all in Nanyuki, said PS Hinga when he visited the proposed site, adding that government will allow payment by instalments to allow even the low income earners to own a modern house.
Making the site even more ideal, the proposed sites location is within an earshot from the trains hoot at Nanyuki Train Station, a reasonable distance to Nanyuki biggest market, Old Market, and its within NAWASCO-managed sewer system.
And we will prepare our people in this town, especially the Jua Kali sector, youth and service providers, to ensure they reap maximum benefits from this huge project, the Governor assured the PS.
Nanyuki, Rumuruti and Nyahururu will be the first towns prioritised for the affordable housing, with all the social amenities being considered in the design and planning.
