The LCDA, in collaboration with the Department of Education, has partnered with the Italian-based NGO Africa Nel Cuore on a School Feeding Program aimed at providing ECDE pupils worst affected by drought in the County a nutritious meal a day. They held the discussions at the Catholic Parish in Rumuruti.
Africa Nel Cuore is a donor organisation based in Italy that deals in social welfare programmes, community empowerment and conservation initiatives in Kenya coordinated by Father Mino Vaccari and currently hosted in his Parish at Rumuruti Catholic Parish.
The school feeding programme is one of the safety net programs under HE EGH Joshua Irungu which urgently address famine effects experienced in the worst drought-hit areas in the County due to underwhelming rainfall over the past 2 years. The program will provide a nutritious meal a day to growing EDCE children whose lack of food impedes their ability to learn and develop healthily. The programme will also encourage the retention of pupils in school, increase enrolment, improve attendance and lower school drop-out rates.
Africa Nel Cuore informed the county team of their plan to construct a rescue centre in Rumuruti and made a passionate request to Governor Joshua Irungu, through the county team, to allocate land for the construction of a rescue centre. The team committed to following up with the County boss on the same.
In attendance were the CECM Education Stephen Kisorio, Chief Officer Education Mr John Mwangi Gichuki, LCDA CEO Mr James Mugambi and other staff members from LCDA and Dept of Education.
