World Water Day 2023: Promoting Sustainable Solutions To Water Challenges.

The department of Water, Environment and Natural Resources, joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Water Day, on March 22 in Rumuruti.
This years theme, "accelerating change to solve water and sanitation crisis," emphasizes on the importance of taking aggressive action to address the water crisis, which has been exacerbated by climate change.
Speaking while delivering the governors speech, HE. Reuben Kamuri, Deputy Governor Laikipia County, noted the governments efforts in promoting solutions to water challenges in the county.
We are on the truck to distribute 50,000 water tanks over the next five years for water storage and rainwater harvesting.'' The Deputy Governor noted.
In collaboration with the National Government, the DG also noted on the plan to construct the Rumuruti Mega Dam, which is designed to hold an average of 15 million cubic meters of water, enough to serve more than 10,000 households in the Rumuruti area and beyond.
CECM Water, Environment, and Natural Resources, Ms. Leah Njeri reiterated her commitment to prudency in water management to mitigate the extreme water shortage that has been experienced lately due to prolonged drought equally, to develop people-centred policies that seeks sustainable water availability and utilisation.
The commemorative activities included a tree planting exercise near the Ngare Narok wetland.
