The Department of Water, Environment, and Natural Resources recently convened a workshop to reinvigorate Laikipia County's technical working group on climate change, as a step up effort to involve multi-sectorial partners in pacing climate change actions.
The members of the technical working group are stakeholders in various sectors whose key role is to provide technical and substantive support on issues relating to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience building.
The meeting provided an opportunity to engage the stakeholders by opening up discussions for a broader and holistic impact on matters related to climate change as well as enlightening them on the existing legal framework for climate action.
The CECM of Water, Environment, and Natural Resources, Ms. Leah Njeri, assured of the county government's commitment to taking measures to reverse the effects of climate change through promotion of collaboration and complementarity across sectors.
In this context, the CEC called upon members to share climate related information in order to raise awareness and accelerate the intervention actions needed to address climate change.
''We must ensure that knowledge is shared to create awareness and build capacity in communities to adapt to climate change," said Ms. Leah Njeri.
Members present were representatives from WRUA, KWS, Hand in Hand East Africa, Impact Kenya, the SNV-LISTEN project, Laikipia Wildlife Forum, Project Africa, LAICONA, and the county's departments of agriculture, economic planning, and public participation, among others.
