Laikipia County's First Lady HE Grace Wakahora has called for concerted efforts in creating a safe digital environment for children in an effort to safeguard them from harm and exploitation.
The lives of children today, especially teenagers, in so many aspects, is defined by the social media," First Lady Grace, observed.
The first lady noted that the digital era has fundamentally changed the way in which children socialize, how they understand the world, and often, their rights are infringed upon in guise of entertainment.
"And this should worry us, because our children's beliefs and philosophies are being shaped from uncensored sources. In absence of proper mechanisms of protection, children will be susceptible to greater risks of harm online. The First Lady cautioned.
The first lady was speaking yesterday at Manguo Primary School in Igwamiti Ward, Laikipia West as she led hundreds of residents in marking the International Day of the African Child in an event organized by Saint Martin CSA .
The day that is celebrated annually on 16th June provides an opportunity for stakeholders to take stock of the gains and gaps in safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.
