H.E President William Ruto EGH commissioned the new modern KCC Nyahururu Factory that has a higher milk processing capacity.
The new facility is poised to scale up daily output from current 80,000 litres per day to 150,000 litres of milk daily.
The factory targets a catchment of dairy farmers from more than five counties in the area.
The Government will make the New KCC more efficient, facilitate training, invest in value addition and secure lucrative markets that will offer higher returns to milk farmers in this region. This will ensure we double our production to more than 10 billion litres a year to drive our economic growth , President Ruto said.
The County Government of Laikipia is stimulating profitability of dairy farming by scaling up production of nutritious and affordable animal feeds expanding acreage under Soya Beans production through distribution of free soya Beans seeds to farmers.
Soya Beans are a key component of nutritious dairy and poultry feeds manufacturing whose prices are currently highly priced due to high cost of imported wheat husks.
Replacement of wheat husks with soya beans is expected to lower the costs of animal feeds thereby increasing farm gate profit margins for milk and poultry farmers.
As a government, we are committed to promoting fodder crops and soya bean farming as key components in the production of animal feeds. This will help to lower the cost of animal feeds and improve the quantity and quality of dairy and poultry products, said Governor Irungu.
Through the Department of Agriculture, the County Government of Laikipia is distributing free Soya seeds to farmers as part of intentional economic and livelihoods diversification policy of the current county administration.
