NEEDY STUDENTS IN TIGITHI RECEIVE OVER KhSH 4.5M BURSARY AID

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Administration Hon Purity Kendi on February 2, 2024 led a delegation of County Government officers in distribution of kSh over 4.5 million in bursary cheques in Tigithi ward.
A total of ksh4,543,500 was disbursed to needy students after a rigorous vetting exercise.
Accompanied by Chief Officer Infrastructure Eng. Peter Macharia, and Tigithi MCA Hon. Nicholas Muturi, the team held two meetings in the ward, bringing the cheques closest to the beneficiaries- at the Chiefs Camp in Matanya, and at Tharua Special School in Lamuria.
The various bursary categories were as follows:
~840 high school students in day schools each getting Ksh. 3,000
~233 students in boarding high schools each getting Ksh. 5,000
~20 in collages getting Ksh.8,000 each
~30 in universities getting Ksh 8,000 each
~21 VTCs Students each getting Ksh. 10,000
~19 students from special schools getting Ksh. 5,000 each.
Hon. Kendi urged the parents, teachers and all stakeholders present to continue supporting education for the betterment of the people of Laikipia.
Education brings transformation.I commend all of you for the good work you are doing like applying for the bursaries to see your children remain in school undisturbed by issues of school fees, the CEC said.
The area MCA confirmed that the bursary allocation was transparent and applicants that were successful were found to meet the criteria set and vetted by local stakeholders.
We are using a new formula for bursary allocation that will see these needy students also benefit for the next four years. However, every year all must apply for the bursary, said Hon. Muturi.
Mr. Evans Ondieki, Principal Waguthiru Secondary School described the bursary allocation as the most fair he has ever witnessed in his 34 years of teaching in various schools.
In my career life as a teacher, I must admit that I have never seen such a huge number of bursary allocations. Kudos to the county leadership, the Principal said.
Bursary distribution exercise runs for the whole of this week in efforts by H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH administration to ensure 100 percent transition from one level to the next in an effort to empower the youth to realize their potential.
Assistant County Commissioner (ACC1) Lamuria Division Mr. Daniel Ntausi was also present during the bursary cheques distribution in Lamuria.
