Sagumai ECDE Center Refurbished, Equipped

The County Government of Laikipia has reclaimed the Sagumai ECDE center in Sosian ward from security agencies who had converted it into anti-banditry security operation base since 2021.
The buildings fell into disrepair and vandalism as parents withdrew their children over insecurity and teachers fled.
Security agencies occupied it and dug military trenches and have been using the center as part of their infrastructure in restoring peace in the wider Laikipia North, Baringo and Samburu areas prone to cattle rustling disturbances.
Following intervention by H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH, security agencies vacated the school to pave way for refurbishment, equipment, and restoration, a process that was completed last weekend when a new set of 40 chairs and tables were delivered to the center.
Acting CECM for Education, Mr Stephen Kisorio and his Chief Officer, Mr Mwangi Gichuki spearheaded the delivery of the furniture that were made by carpentry students of the Nyahururu Vocational Training Center (VTC).
Kids were eager to learn and have since come back but have been sitting on the concrete floor. The insecurity related disruptions mean some children who should have proceeded to primary school have also come back because they are still too young to walk to the nearest school some distance away said Mr Gichuki.
To solve the problem, the county government has undertaken to expedite demarcation of the Sagumai school land and registration of the same as a primary school to enable Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to post teachers. Over 100 kids are enrolled at the center.
The county government is intentional in providing public amenities in the area to support the community in settling down and enable children to attend school consistently by drilling of the nearby Rabal borehole and refurbishment of the local Rabal dispensary last year.
