Kiamariga Digital Community Hub In Salama Ward

Laikipia Governor H. E Joshua Irungu EGH presided over the launching of the Kiamariga Digital Community Hub in Salama ward that will facilitate the residents in matters digital literacy as well as connect digitally to the rest of the globe .
The hub was constructed and equipped by American Tower Communications Kenya (ATC Kenya) in partnership with Safaricom Ltd.
The equipment include eight laptops, a 54 inch television LCD screen, charging booths, free internet Wi-Fi, and metallic work benches within a space that can accommodate 40-50 ICT learners.
County Government of Laikipia will take charge of security and management of the facility as well as employing ICT instructors to train the youth and issue KNEC certified credentials on short online courses.
This hub will also be linked with the Rumuruti Library by use of portable servers that are also equiped with electronic library resources to enable local teachers research on CBC compliant teaching content.
Members of the public can also access e-citizen public services at the facility by used of solar-powered free wifi at the Hub.
The government signed a partnership agreement with the ATC to continue exploring ways to expand service delivery to the community to access the world and kickstart the journey to digital literacy programs online jobs creation, innovation and impact the community by leveraging on ICT technology, internet and creativity in a sustainable fashion.
Laikipia continues engaging with partners to create positive impacts by leveraging on the county government operated Vocational Training Centers model to expand digital literacy in the rural areas and the social- economic possibilities that come with it.
Accompanying the Governor was County Secretary Mr Koinange Wahome , Ag. CECM for Education, Mr. Kisorio Biwott, Chief Officer Education, Mr. Mwangi Gichuki, Chief Officer Administration, Mr Mike Kemboi, Salama Ward MCA Hon. Samuel Mugambi, ATC Kenya CEO Mr. George Odenyo, Safaricom representative Mr James Langat, among other officials.
