May 14, 2024: Nanyuki Municipality is poised to have a world-class market after the groundbreaking ceremony of Nanyuki modern market. The market will be built at a cost of Ksh. 350 million shillings.
The construction commencement ceremony was led by HE. Governor Joshua Irungu EGH joined by National Assembly Leader, Hon. Kimani Ichungwah.
In its design, the modern market incorporates other sector amenities such as crèche for mothers, an ICT hub for the youth, a health room, a cold room, and food courts.
The market will alleviate Nanyuki status, expand employment base as it accommodates more traders, generate county government more revenue, and importantly, provide dignified working environment for traders.
County Government of Laikipia is keen to partner with National Government, elected leaders in Laikipia, and development partners in effort of actualising our 2023-2027 CIDP.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, host of elected leaders attended including Laikipia Deputy Governor HE. Reuben Kamuri, Laikipia East MP. Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri, Laikipia County Secretary Koinange Wahome, National and County legislatures, among other senior government officials from both levels of government.
