County Program Of Distributing 50, 000 Tanks, Takes Off

The journey to 50,000 tanks for households in Laikipia has officially started with the first batch of 131 tanks of 3000 litres each being distributed to respective women's groups - yesterday May 23, 2024.
At the County headquarters, Rumuruti town, 50 tanks were handed over to beneficiaries who had completed their Ksh. 8,000 payments by March 31, 2023.
At Kirima sub-county, 81 tanks of the same capacity were handed over to groups which had met the criteria set in consultation with their respective County Development Assistants (CDA).
The tanks were acquired through partnership between County Government of Laikipia, K De Igratium International (KDII), Bethel Network and Hindu Council of Kenya.
The programs design is on a fair-sharing formula where a beneficiary is to contribute Ksh. 8,000 for a 3000-litre, while the balance is met by County Government of Laikipia together with development partners.
The 50,000 tanks program for Laikipia household is a complementary program to other county water projects initiatives that include borehole drilling and equipping, dams construction and distilling, and maintenance of existing water infrastructure to ensure that every household has enough water for domestic use by 2027.
The water tank distribution exercise was led by HE. Governor Joshua Irungu, EGH in the company of Deputy Governor HE. Reuben Kamuri and County Secretary Koinange Wahome. CECMs included; Leah Njeri, Stephen Kisorio and Purity Kendi; COs, Mary Gichuru, Abraham Lemanyishoe, John Gichuki, and Jecinta Koree. LCDA's board chairperson Dr. Allan Mugambi and CEO James Mugambi were also present, among other government officials.
