61st Madaraka Day Celebration In Laikipia

                Laikipia County too joined the rest of the nation in celebration of 61st Madaraka day.
The celebrations were jointly led by Laikipia County Commissioner Mr. Onesmus Kyatha and Laikipia County Governor, HE. Governor Joshua Irungu, EGH.
The Main celebration ceremony was held at Laikipia East, in Umande Ward, Kalala town.
This years Madaraka celebration theme is Promoting Agriculture and Food Security."While reading his speech to a jubilant gathering, Governor Irungu reiterated his stand on economic independence of Laikipia residents. That, he insisted, can only be achieved through strategic and deliberate people-centred investments.
The Governor further blazed the torch of unity as the sacred reason why freedom fighters back in 1950s paid the ultimate price for.As we commemorate Madaraka Day and reflect on our journey as a nation, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of unity, freedom and progress, Governor Irungu said.
Further, the Governor charged: As Kenyans, we must be vigilant against the forces of division that seek to tear us apart and shun regional politics that have been a barrier to our collective advancement.
The County boss ended the ceremony with a reconciliatory call for collective duty to nation and county building, by every patriotic Kenya.
