Kenya Marks World Desertification And Drought Day In Laikipia County

Kenya marked World Desertification and Drought Day in Laikipia County, Maiyainat Community Conservancy, in Laikipia North.
The event was led by Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change, Hon. Soipan Tuya, and Laikipia County Governor, HE. Governor Joshua Irungu, EGH.
This years theme, "United for Land: Our Legacy, Our Future," aligns with Laikipia County's clamour for land resilience and sustainability to ensure land can continue to support communities and their household economies.
Maiyainat Community Conservancy was ideal venue owing to its 252-acre Maiyainat Demo plot, where innovative initiatives such as semi-circular bunds have been implemented for rangeland rehabilitation.
The CS Soipan and Governor Irungu both committed that National and County Government shall continue to actively develop policies, fund and implement programs that seeks to manage, conserve and restore degraded lands in Laikipia County.
The World Desertification and Drought Day is observed annually on June 17th to raise awareness about the pressing need to address desertification, land degradation, and drought.
It serves as a global platform to galvanize proactive efforts and promote sustainable land management practices.
