The "Advancing Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) Management Effectiveness in Kenya through an Integrated Approach" is a $10.6 million project under the Kenya Wildlife for Conservation Project, aiming to address the systems driving wildlife and biodiversity loss.
This project is spearheaded by Conservation International and implemented by the Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife in partnership with the Laikipia County Government, ranchers, conservancies, and local communities.
The project seeks to tackle human-wildlife conflict and economically empower local communities through tourism, while also safeguarding local farmers.
To further this initiative, a stakeholders' meeting was held in Nanyuki on July 24, 2024. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Governor Joshua Irungu EGH and by Principal Secretary of the State Department for Wildlife, Silvia Museiya.
The primary objective of the meeting was to establish a collective effort to combat human-wildlife conflict. It aimed to mitigate instances of human-wildlife conflict, including wild animals destroying farms, attacking humans, killing domestic animals, and causing injuries during human activities.
Other leaders present at the meeting included MP of Laikipia North, Sarah Korere; Laikipia County Commissioner, Onesmus Kyatha; Laikipia Assembly Speaker, Lantaano Nabaala; and County Secretary, Koinange Wahome, along with other government officials.
