Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu, EGH on August 12, 2024, led hundreds of Laikipia youths in marking the International Youth Day 2024 in style at the Rumuruti stadium.
Today was the climax of seven days of youth engagement activities that ranged from an on-line live engagement session with the County Chief on X (formerly Twitter), county wide tour of youth-focused commercial agricultural production activities and counselling events across the county among others.
The Governor issued graduation certificates to 190 graduates of the Ajiry ICT Program in Nyahururu which is at the forefront of sealing the digital inequality among youths of diverse social- economic backgrounds in the county.
Ajiry Program, domiciled at the Nyahururu County Social Hall, has produced over 500 youngsters skilled in various ICT-based technical competences geared towards gainful formal and self employment in service and production sectors.
It imparts youth with practical computer skills and digital knowledge in diverse areas including online marketing and artistic content production.
Today was the second mass graduation of youths from County Government backed training institutions this year after over 800 young men and women graduated from Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) early in the year at Rumuruti Stadium.
This underscores the county government commitment to economic empowerment of the youth backed by consistent expansion of both physical facilities and increased bursary allocations to support needy students at all levels.
H.E the Governor added a new youth empowerment feature when he launched a Laikipia County graduates registration portal (https://laikipiagraduates.com) to track and engage with graduates at all levels.
The data base is aimed at building a repository of professional and technical skills pool available in Laikipia from which the county government can tap to fill emerging vacancies for attachments, internships and employment.
This database will help us keep track and maintain an updated record of the number of graduates and their respective areas of skills aimed at ultimately assisting our graduates find placements for attachments, internships and jobs, Governor Irungu said.
Kenya has been hailed as the emerging lead supplier of skilled labour in Sub- Saharan Africa by 2026 owing to intentional and consistent investments in education in the last two decades. Laikipia County is making its mark in this national endeavour.
