Laikipia joined the world in marking the 97th Ushirika Day celebrations at Ilpolei Twala on Saturday, a day set aside to celebrate cooperatives globally for the role they play in economic growth of our communities.
In the last one year, membership of Sacco and cooperatives in Laikipia increased from 52, 250 in 2015 to 62,197 in 2019, evidence of County's constant supports of this endeavour. The memberships shares and deposit in the same period increased from 3. 39 billion to 4.12 billion while asset base grew stronger from 4.2 billion to 5.01 billion
The County is committed to supporting and cultivating this saving culture through:
Supporting value addition and agro-processing sector.
Support Saccos to comply with proposed legal changes as advised by Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
Enhance Audit department to offer timely risk management and audit services to Saccos
Advised saccos to embrace feedlot program and contract farming as part of our government manifesto.
We continue to lend to Saccos through cooperative revolving fund. This financial year we have allocated additional Ksh. 10M to grow the fund to 50M as we promote Buy Laikipia Build Laikipia.
