Nanyuki old market traders secretary Eliud Muchiri has assured traders that slots in newly completed phase one project will be distributed fairly.
Speaking during the dedication prayers in readiness for occupation on November 02 2020, Mr. Muchiri assured that priority will be given to those who had vacated to give way for the contractor to undertake the facelift.
Traders who will occupy the newly refurbished surface are expected to enjoy a more serene environment as the market floor has been carpeted with cabros and has a good drainage system. The completed phase will host more than 2,000 traders who had been relocated to occupy the areas surrounding the market and pave way for the modernization to be effected.
The condition of the market is much better now and the first batch of traders will be occupying an organized market, Mr. Muchiri said.
Sales in the market will increase as more customers will be attracted to the market.
Though being the largest open-air market in the county, the Old Market has had challenges of encroachment and being impassible during rainy season which had made many customers to shy away.
The aim of the county government is to create an enabling environment for traders to operate in and sell their merchandise. Work of improving access roads around the market has also commenced which aims at attracting more traffic to the market.
