Rumuruti Spatial Planning Draft

On Thursday 9th 2021, County Department of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Planning presented a draft of Rumuruti Spatial Pan to stakeholders, a Master Plan, that will guide development of this budding town that doubles up at Laikipia County Headquarters.
The Spatial plan outlines how every industry will position itself in the town; areas where industries will be located, where schools will be located, how police stations will be, how water and sewer systems will be installed among other development proposals.
Deputy Governor John Mwaniki chairing the meeting noted that why many towns are in total development chaos was because of poor or total lack of planning by present leaders and town managers.
"When everyone who owns a land in town thinks they can build anything anywhere, that is how you get urban slum in the name of a town. You find a market next to dumpsite, prison next to a school and wonder, whose thought was this?" the DG charged.
The stakeholders present who included the National Land Commission NLC, Export Processing Zones EPZ, local traders and investors scrutinised the draft proposal and gave their opinions and recommendations to better the daft plan.
CEC in charge of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Planning, Joseph Shuel, in consultation with Rumuruti Township MCA Hon. Joseph Suge, assured the stakeholders that land management in the town will be done diligently, in close collaboration with NLC and security agents to wipe off rampant land fraud.
"The next stage for the draft proposal will be present it to Mwananchi in Rumuruti for their input. Recommendations from stakeholders and Mwananchi will be consolidated and the improved draft presented to County Executive for adoption and validation. Then, tabled at County Assembly for approval," CEC Shuel explained.
The DG noted that the Spatial Plan once approved by the Executive and the County Assembly, Rumuruti Municipality will have a legal blueprint imagination of the future City, with proper infrastructure, industrial zones, and all sectors location properly articulated - hence easy management.
