H.E Governor Joshua Irungu Pledges To Reinstate Sacked Medics

Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has promised to reinstate 61 doctors and specialists that were fired three years ago.

In his inaugural address on Thursday, August 25, The Governor said the medics will be back to work beginning September 1, 2022.

"It does not matter what amount of money it is going to cost to have the doctors back to work, we will make arrangements to pay them gradually while working," Irungu stated.

The medics were fired in 2019 after holding a protest to agitate for salary increament and promotions.

H.E Governor Irungu promises to employ nurses

Outgoing Laikipia County Governor Nderitu Muriithi with the new Governor Joshua Wakahora Irungu.

In addition, H.E Governor Irungu has also promised to employ nurses and laboratory technicians that are currently on contract on a permanent and pensionable basis.

During the campaign period, the new governor had promised that his first assignment would be to reinstate the sacked medics in a bid to revive the health sector in the county.
