H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH presented a 30,240,000 shillings worth cheque to representatives of Community Driven Development Committee, CDDC, under the Kenya Climate Smart Program, KCSAP.
The farmers groups drawn from six KCSAP wards in the county are Segera, Tigithi, Ol Moran, Ngobit, Salama and Rumuruti. They are implementing smart agricultural micro programs whose design expected outcome is to increase productivity and create resilience at household level.
Using Farmers Field Schools model, the KCSAP program using the agriculture extension officers from the Department of Agriculture brings together farmers from the targeted six semi-arid wards into a common, knowledge sharing platform.
At this point, the farmers are trained as a group on application of Technology, Innovation and Management (TIMs), in their farming activities, on modern, smart agriculture. These efforts are geared towards changing how farmers have been taking agriculture as a norm, to transiting into agribusiness that guarantees food security.
The farmers are expected to prudently invest these resources as they had outlined in their project proposal during application.
The County Governor of Laikipia is committed to continue to holistically empower farmers across the county, until farming becomes viable to every person, willing and committed, to doing farming seriously, as a livelihood.
Also present during the hand over of the cheque to CDDCs was; the Deputy Governor H.E. Reuben Kamuri, County Assembly Speaker Hon. Lantano Nabaala, County Secretary Koinange Wahome, CECM Agriculture Dennis Kasoo, among other honourable members of County Assembly and other government officials.
