Approximately 6000 sheep and goats and 400 heads of cattle were vaccinated against sheep and goats pox and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) respectively yesterday during the Vaccination Demonstration in 3 different sites.
This is after a two weeks long sensitization forums on vaccines handling by the County Veterinary officers in partnership with a team from KEVAVAPI. The department is intensifying efforts in disease surveillance and Control in the whole county as highlighted by Dr. Ncebere Jackson who represented the CEC Mr. Dennis Kasoo .
The aim is to control transboundary and trade sensitive livestock diseases which are prevalent in Laikipia County. These diseases impacts negatively on both livestock production and trade.
The team included veterinary doctors from the county and other animal health officers who worked tirelessly to administer the vaccines effectively and ensure that the program is a success.
This is a major step in fulfilling the Governor's manifesto on establishing Livestock disease prevention and Control programs for the Livestock farmers in the County.
