The CECM of the Laikipia Health Service - LHS Hon. Albert Taiti formally signed the Memorandum of Understand with Amref Health Africa in Kenya for the use of the 305 medical oxygen cylinders delivered last month in the first phase of the The Global Fund supported project. These cylinders of various capacities include 200, 75 and 30 that can each deliver 8500 litres, 3400 litres and 1360 litres of oxygen respectively to patients, between refills.
Since inception of this programme earlier this year the Global Fund has supported under this project, in the Laikipia Health Service alone, the treatment of patients with over 38 million litres of medical grade oxygen worth over KSh 19 million shillings at the current market purchase value, most of which was consumed at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital - NTRH - LHS Nanyuki.
Present to oversee and support the process was AnnRose Gitau of the Health Prodicts and Technologies Unit of the Ministry of Health - Kenya.
There are other ongoing projects supported by the grant, that will be implemented in due course. Keep it here to be the first to know.
The County Government of Laikipia is appreciative of this support, but is also cognizant of the duration of the Global Fund support, which will end before the end of June of 2024. By that time, the County Government will make provisions for and fund the installation of a new PSA Oxygen plant in Nanyuki to ensure that the same level of service continues for this rapidly expanding and highly reputable hospital.
