Today, HE. Governor Joshua Irungu EGH flagged off two teams that will be representing Laikipia County for the Kenyas intercounty games in Meru County and in Nakuru County, next week.
Executive team will be representing Laikipia at the 10th edition of Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) in Meru County, while Legislature team will be heading to Nakuru for the 4th edition of County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games.
"Governor, this is the largest team Laikipia has ever facilitated for any sporting event. It has 407 civil servants across various disciplines in the service and this is thanks to your love for youth and sports," Ag. CECM in charge of Education, Sports and Youth, Stephen Kisorio told Governor during the flagging off event.
Chief Officer in charge of Sports and Youth, Jecinta Koree explained that Laikipia will be facilitating all disciplines to the KICOSCA games, a sign of county's commitment to sports and talent development in the County.
During the event, the folk dancers elated everyone in attendance with their magical dance moves. They held each others shoulders; weaved like three-thread traditional rope, twisting, clanging, and whistling like those who are summoning the gods, making everyone grind on their plastic chairs with excitement.
"Governor, this is a Turkana community folk song, danced by more than five communities in the service. Their soloist is called Mary Wanjira and the song is called YEKUNI AJOGON, a song about A GOOD FRIEND," CO Jecinta explained.
Speaker Hon. Lantano Nabaala while appreciating the cultural diversity in Laikipia, together with County Assembly Chair of Sports Committee Hon. Irene Wachuka and Chair of County Assembly Budget Committee Hon. Nicholas Mwaniki, all promised to be supporting sport budget at the County Assembly.
Vividly happy, Governor Joshua Irungu EGH, closed the event a happy man, reiterating his commitment to talent development in the County:

I promise, that sports in this county tops my development agenda, you can even expect more impetus to these efforts," Governor Irungu released the two Laikipia teams, with good luck wishes.
