Engaging Women In Dol Dol On Matters Development

On February 28, 2024, H.E Governor Joshua Irungu EGH continued with his grassroots women empowerment conversation with over 250 grassroots women leaders from Mukogondo East and Mukogondo West wards in a forum held at Dol Diol Catholic Hall.
This was the fifth open forum that the Governor has organised this month, now brings the total number of women leaders who have engaged on matters development and economic empowerment to over 2000.
These face-to-face conversations are designed to position women at the centre of leadership discourse in the county, by educating them on their civic duty as Laikipia residents, in developing their county while also holding government accountable on its promises.
Key in these discussions is one of Governors main manifesto development pillar, water provision. In this particular pillar, the most affected members of the community are usually women.
While I agree we men play critical role in providing and protecting for our families, even women do so, but we must agree, it is our wives, our mothers and daughter who mostly break their backs in search of water if it lacks, the Governor explained.
In appreciation of this reality, Laikipia Countys water masterplan has in it plan to roll out 300 water projects across the county to ensure no person treks for more than a kilometre in search of water, by 2027. The projects are in motion already.
The other front is we provide 50, 000 water tanks of 3,000 litres each to households but it will be on a fair cost-sharing formula. Beneficiaries will only foot 35 percent of the total cost while government and development partner absorbs 75 percent. This project targets women in groups within Laikipia, registered or not, the Governor elaborated.
Further into the discussions, development partners and departmental heads including CECs, COs and CEOs also got to explain what their individual dockets operate and impact on women empowerment.
For transparency and accountability, consensus was that respective ward County Development Assistants (CDAs) will be the only link between the County Government and the women groups to ensure there is one source of factual and reliable information in every ward.
Present in the meeting: Deputy Governor H.E Reuben Kamuri, CECMs including; Ms Purity Kendi in charge of Administration, Mr. Stephen Kisorio for Trade; Chief Officers Mr. Stephen Lapian for Governors Office, and Ms. Jecinta Koree for Sports, CEO for LCDA Mr. James Mugambi, Chief of Staff Mr. John Wambugu, among others
