The Second Lady, H.E. Pastor Dorcas Rigathi today kicked off a four-day visit of Laikipia County with a Prayer Summit at Rumuruti County Headquarters.
The Prayer Summit was hosted by senior clergymen and leaders of various churches and ministries across the county.
Under their umbrella Association of Pentacostal and Evangelical Clergy (APEC) the clergymen declared solidarity with Pastor Dorcas national crusade for active interventions and initiatives by churches to save the boy child from ravages of alcoholism and drug abuse.
"Why is it that the seed carrier (boys) should be destroyed by alcoholism as we sit and watch? The kingdom of God is concerned about protecting seed carrier. The church represents the kingdom of God and must take lead in this," said Pastor Dorcas in her sermon.
All churches and ministries represented are expected to establish soup kitchens, feeding and relief centers targeting street boys and street families with the aim of enrolling them in rehabilitation programs.
"Since we started this, I am amazed each day that many alcoholics and addicts are recovering on improved diets alone without being put on medication. You will be surprised at the progress they make by just giving them love and care," she added.
She is expected to preside over a free medical camp at Rumuruti Stadium Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, H.E.Governor Joshua Irungu, EGH , commended the Second Lady for choosing Laikipia as a key site for her rehabilitation, restoration and talent promotion programs.
The county chief said the youth are an important human capital asset for the country and urged people of good will, churches included to open their doors and hearts to help those in need of support to deal with challenges of pulling themselves out from addictions.
In the last two weeks the County Government of Laikipia has rolled out an aggressive campaign to vet hot beverage sellers with a view to ensure compliance with regulations relating to protecting minors and vulnerable youth by shutting down those too close to schools and residential areas.
Among dignitaries attending the event included Laikipia First Lady, H.E Grace Wakahora, DG HE Reuben Kamuri, Laikipia Senator, Hon John Kinyua, Women Rep Hon Jane Kagiri and senior government officials.
