MULTI AGENCY TEAM FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESPONSE

Top Laikipia County leadership on May 3 2023 have met to discuss disaster management preparedness in the wake of the ongoing torrential heavy rains in the county and country.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Deputy Governor H.E Reuben Kamuri and County Commissioner Mr. Onesmus Kyatha with to craft best ways to keep Laikipians safe during current rainy season.
The team highlighted the high-risk areas pising greatest danger from which people are urged to vacate until the rains subside.
Those living too close to swamps, near river banks, and close to high risk dams are some of those requested to relocate.
Mapping out of safe areas that can accommodate the displaced persons has also been completed .
These include nearby schools which have not been adversely affected by floods.
They also set up a secretariat comprising county and national government technocrats to undertake 24/7 monitoring and dissemination of real time crucial information regarding the status of rains and floods across the county for timely response.
In one accord, the leaders reiterated the need to avoid movements across flooded areas.
Among senior county executives in attendance included county secretary Mr. Koinange Wahome, CECM Administration Ms. Purity Kendi, CECM Infrastructure Mr. Ekwam Nabos, Chief Officers; Road Eng. Peter Macharia, Water Mr. Abram Lemanyishoe, Livestock Mrs. Mary Gichuru, Health Dr. Timothy Panga, Finance Mr. Daniel Ngumi, and other county and national government leaders.
